DG Pocket Coach

Throw-form analysis tool that compares a recorded throw against real professional footage and returns feedback on each phase of the motion.

What to know

DG Pocket Coach runs in a web browser; the iOS and Android apps were marked as coming soon when this was checked. A slow-motion video is uploaded, a pro is chosen from a library that includes Paige Pierce, Ezra Aderhold and Silas Schultz, and the user scrubs through the clip to mark seven positions by hand, from Pre X-Step to Full Follow Through. The results score each position, give joint angles in degrees, suggest drills and list the pros whose form is closest.

More detail

The comparison sizes the user's pose skeleton to the pro's, stacks the two and syncs them in time. Forehand comparison, rear-angle analysis and connections to real coaches were all listed as upcoming, so for now it covers the backhand, with no human coach involved. Both plans include unlimited analyses after a 3-day free trial: $8 a month or $70 a year.
